Moldova may consider the nationalization of Moldovagaz, in which Gazprom owns 50% of the shares

Moldovan media reports that Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean has asked Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru to revise the nationalization legislation.

The prime minister appealed after Russian Gazprom announced that it would stop supplying natural gas to Moldovagaz from January 1, 2025, allegedly because of the company’s debt.

“For the first time, the Kremlin’s political ‘clowns and speculators’ in Chisinau are trying to pressure the government to take on a debt of more than $700 million. A debt that does not exist,” noted Rechan.

One of the most likely enterprises to be reconsidered for nationalization is Moldovagaz, which is controlled by Gazprom (50%). The Moldovan government owns 35.33% of Moldovagaz shares, while the administration of the so-called Transnistria owns 13.44%.
