Sixth massive russian attack on gas infrastructure since early October

Russia carried out its sixth massive attack on Ukraine’s gas infrastructure overnight on October 15-16, according to press services of Ukrainian companies.

Attack on Naftogaz facilities

According to the state-owned Naftogaz, Russian forces launched dozens of missiles, including ballistic ones, and hundreds of Shahed drones. Only civilian facilities that supply Ukrainians with gas and heat were targeted.

“Unfortunately, there are casualties. Four of our colleagues are currently receiving medical assistance. There were hits and destruction in several regions at once. The operation of several critical facilities has been halted. Our specialists immediately started eliminating the consequences,” said Naftogaz CEO Sergii Koretskyi.

According to Koretskyi, such attacks directly affect the company’s own gas production volumes, which Naftogaz is forced to partially compensate through imports. He urged consumers to use gas responsibly amid Russian attacks.

Attack on DTEK gas production

The country’s largest private gas producer also reported another attack on its gas production facilities in the Poltava region.

“As a result of the attack, the operation of gas production facilities in the Poltava region was stopped,” the company said.

As a reminder, on October 3, Russia carried out the largest massive attack on Ukraine’s gas production facilities, which led to a significant reduction in gas output.
